Chairman Amos: Forsyth Economic Forecast, Finances Remain "Strong"

The chair of the Forsyth County Commission recently gave his 2013 State of the County address.

Forsyth County's chairman is not holding back the optimism he has for the county to prosper in 2013.

District 1 Commissioner Pete Amos recently gave the 2013 State of the County address during the State of the Community event organized by the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce and Council for Quality Growth.

Amos said the county he came to love as his adopted home is not just a sense of place, but "it’s a sense of accomplishment, a sense of progress and a sense of pride."

The chairman noted the county's economic outlook is "stronger than ever," and the county is forging ahead with completing some of its much-needed projects, such as a new courthouse and jail expansion, opening a new fire station in the Matt community and turning dirt on the long-awaited animal shelter under construction in the northern part of the county.

"The success that our community has enjoyed is the result of a strong vision met by a community committed to reaching new heights and achieving unparalleled progress," he said.

2012 also brought a surge in new housing permits, with the county doling out nearly 2,300 residential permits, which Amos noted is nearly double the 2011 number.

Along with promoting and recruiting new industry, Forsyth continues to stress the importance of an educated workforce, the chairman noted. The county is "proud" to add the University of North Georgia to its community, adding their investment "brings not only essential education but also hope to countless students who we hope will one day reinvest in Forsyth."

In the midst of what he calls a struggle at the national level, Forsyth remains on focus on branding itself as a great place to live, work, play and retire, Amos added.

"Together, as a community committed to achieving greatness, we will work to protect our community for generations to come while offering our citizens the best quality of life possible," he stated.
