Construction to Begin on Mason Street Parking Facility

Work results in changes to parking and to payment drop-box location.

Patch Staff Report

Crews are slated to begin construction of the Mason Street Parking Facility located near the Forsyth County Administration Building. The future five-level, 491-space Mason Street Parking Facility is the second of two parking decks that are part of the new courthouse and jail project funded by the voter-approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) VII program.

To move forward with construction of the Mason Street Parking Facility, the construction fence that was erected in April for site preparation will be extended. This is slated to occur the weekend of June 7. This will result in the loss of the county employee parking area on the north side of the County Administration Building and the 15-minute loading and unloading spaces along School Street. The Water and Sewer Department payment drop- box is being moved from School Street to the grassy area near the one-hour public parking lot along Mason Street.

Construction of the three-level, 222-space Castleberry Parking Facility at the intersection of Castleberry Road and Maple Street is complete. At their June 5 meeting, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners approved a Resolution conveying title of that deck to the city of Cumming. The opening of the Castleberry Parking Facility will be at the discretion of city officials.
