County Will Pursue Collection Of Money Owed

Defunct Central Park booster club owes more than $8,000 to county.

Forsyth County Board of Commissioners will pursue collection of the $8,436 owed to the county by the Central Park Softball Association, a defunct booster club at Central Park. The money owed is more than seven months overdue ().

“It will be undertaken by my office, but it will be informal and we will exhaust those efforts before we seek any litigation,” said attorney Ken Jarrard with the law firm Jarrard & Davis, LLP in an interview with Cumming Patch.

According to Jarrard, one of the first steps is to determine who signed on the dotted line to make the obligation or commitment to be responsible for the payment.

“I will tell you that most of the documentation that I have received from the Parks and Rec. Department indicates that they have been pursuing a Miss Betsy Stanford, so I anticipate our efforts will begin there,” said Jarrard.

Betsy Stanford was past president of the Softball Association and until recently was listed as a Central Park Athletic Association (CPAA) board member.

Jarrard, who received the file of the case this week, is still developing a plan of exactly how he intends to pursue payment.

He did say he has a concern in regards to whether there is a legal entity called the Central Park Youth Softball Association.

“I’m not sure that is a viable legal entity. I haven’t received confirmation of that yet,” said Jarrard.

Last year was the last season for the softball organization. According to the CPAA Web site which states, “Central Park Baseball and Softball are now one organization.”
