Cumming Representative Tapped for Funding Committee

Mark Hamilton, who represents Cumming and House District 24, will help look for legislative solutions to Georgia's transportation infrastructure funding problem.

A Cumming state representative has been selected to sit on a 16-person committee which will look at ways to fund the state's transportation infrastructure.

House District 24 Rep. Mark Hamilton (R) was named to the Joint Study Committee on Critical Transportation Infrastructure Funding by House Speaker David Ralston. Other appointees to the committee were selected by Ralston and President of the State Senate and Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle.

Representatives from the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the Association County Commissioners of Georgia, and the Georgia Municipal Association are also expected to serve on the committee.

The Joint Study Committee on Critical Transportation Infrastructure Funding was created by House Resolution 1573, which was passed in March. The committee shall meet for eight days with the purpose of studying, "the conditions, needs, issues, and problems" of transportation infrastructure funding, and must produce legislative recommendations for the 2015 Georgia General Assembly.

Recommendations must be submitted by Nov. 30, 2014, and the committee will be abolished on Dec. 1. The 153rd Georgia General Assembly begins on Jan. 13, 2015.
