Forsyth County Recognized for Fiscal Responsibility

County awarded certificate for financial reporting.

Forsyth County has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The county was recognized for its financial records for fiscal year 2009. This is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting in the United States and Canada.

The GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program (CAFR Program) in 1945 to encourage state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles, preparing complete annual financial reports that embrace the spirit of transparency and full disclosure.

"The entire Finance Department is to be commended for receiving this recognition," said David Gruen, director of Finance/Controller, in a statement.

Gruen, who joined the county in November 2010, also added, "This award is a reflection of Forsyth County government's commitment to transparency as well as the professional work of our entire Finance Department."

Forsyth County has been awarded this recognition consistently since fiscal year 2000.
