Forsyth Development Authorities Green-Light Downtown Water Fountain

Construction would cost at least $130K.

The Forsyth County Development Authority voted Thursday to OK construction plans for a water fountain at the new county courthouse in downtown Cumming.

The fountain would  be situated in front of the new five-story building, which is set to be completed by 2015. Construction would cost at least $130,000, Forsyth County News reported. Chairman David Seago said an additional $19,000 may be needed to install a special drainage and septic system that would prevent microorganisms like algae from accumulating.

In the meantime, authority members will continue to seek out ways to cut costs on construction.

“I have faith we can come up with the money,” former authority chairman Bobby Thomas said at the meeting, Forsyth County News reported. “But if we don’t put in the septic to start with, it doesn’t matter.”
