Forsyth Transportation Summit To Address GA 400 Congestion, Local Needs

Set for Oct. 30 in Cumming, guests include state lawmakers, Georgia Department of Transportation officials and Forsyth County reps.

Forbes recently ranked Forsyth County as the seventh fastest-growing county in America. As the community continues to grow and enjoy economic prosperity, infrastructure must be in place to ensure a sustainable economic future, according to a Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce press release.

To address the congestion on GA 400 and other local transportation needs the Chamber along with Forsyth County Government, the South Forsyth Rotary Club and various local rotary clubs have joined to host the 2013 Transportation Summit, set for Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 11:30 a.m. in Cumming.

Guests include State Sen. Steve Gooch, chairman of the Transportation Committee; State Rep. Mike Dudgeon; State Rep. Mark Hamilton; Rudy Bowen, Georgia Department of Transportation, District 7; Emily Dunn, Georgia Department of Transportation, District 9; Bayne Smith, Georgia Department of Transportation, district engineer; John Cunard, director of the Forsyth County Government Engineering Department; Bert Brantley; and Chris Tomlinson of the State Road and Tollway Authority.

“Forsyth County continues to be one of the fastest growing counties in the state, so transportation is a key topic for our community to address," District 4 Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills said in the release. "Transportation impacts all facets of our community, not the least of which is economic development. From the McGinnis Ferry Road interchange to the widening of Highway 20, transportation projects impact not only existing businesses but also businesses that are considering locating or expanding in Forsyth County.

"The Transportation Summit will provide a great opportunity for open dialogue and communication regarding the future of transportation in our county and I would encourage everyone to attend this event.”
