Free Tax Help Available in Cumming

For those people who earned no more than $57,000 in 2011, free tax help is available through VITA.

Need help with your personal taxes? Stop by for free tax-preparation service to local individuals and families that earned $57,000 or less in 2011 on a first come, first serve basis.

IRS certified and trained volunteers will be available to provide assistance in completing and filing federal and state taxes through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA).

The volunteers will also help families and individuals determine whether they qualify for special tax credits such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and Credit for the Elderly.

Bring the following documents:

  • Photo ID
  • Social Security Card for each family member
  • Correct birth dates for each family member
  • A copy of last years Federal and State tax returns
  • W-2 for all jobs held in 2011
  • All 1099 forms that indicate income
  • If you have child care expenses, please bring the Day Care Provider's name, address and Tax Identification Number
  • Bank Routing and Account Numbers for direct deposit option
  • If filing jointly with your spouse, both parties must be present to sign the return

Last year, the program helped return almost $2 billion in total tax refunds to individuals and families, who often used those dollars to pay bills and purchased necessities, such as food and clothing.Β  It also saved people nearly $200 million in paid tax preparer fees.

Tuesday, Feb. 21 from 9 a.m. - noon and 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Friday, Feb. 24 from 9 a.m. - noon and 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. - noon

Monday, Feb. 27 and Tuesday, Feb. 28 from 9 a.m. - noon and 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Thursday, March 1 through Saturday, March 3 from 9 a.m. - noon
