GDOT Announces Traffic Shift on SR 141/Bethelview Road

The traffic changes will begin Thursday night and be complete by 6 a.m. Friday. The shift will progress in sections, lane closures will be required and traffic will be delayed in the area as the traffic shift occurs.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced a traffic shift is scheduled overnight Thursday, April 3 on the State Route 141/Bethelview Road at State Route 9 intersection improvement project, if weather permits.  

WHAT: State Route 141 from the SR 400 southbound ramps to Waffle House will shift  

WHEN: If weather cooperates, these traffic changes will begin Thursday night and be complete by 6 a.m. Friday. The shift will progress in sections overnight. Lane closures will be required and traffic will be delayed in the area as the traffic shift occurs.

WHY: Shifting traffic allows traffic to continue to as sections of the new roadway are built.  

“Construction season is underway, with warmer temperatures we expect to see work intensifying on all of our projects. Please remember, this is a work zone and extreme caution is necessary for motorists and workers. Please slow down as you travel through this work zone. Message signs are in place now to alert the community of the upcoming changes. We appreciate your cautious driving through the area,” said DOT District Construction Engineer Harold Mull.

This $5 million construction project was awarded to C.W. Matthews Contractor, of Marietta. The project will reconstruct the existing intersection of State Route 141/Bethelview Road and State Route 9 creating two through lanes, two left turning lanes and a right turning lane for each leg of the intersection.

The project also upgrades the traffic signal equipment and constructs sidewalks. The project completion date is April 30, 2014.
