First Lady Sandra Deal and State Superintendent John Barge paid a visit to Forsyth County's retired teachers during their monthly meeting Friday.

Georgia's First Lady Sandra Deal and state schools Superintendent Dr. John Barge were in town Friday attending a portion of the monthly meeting of the Forsyth County Retired Educators Association (FCREA) held at the county Board of Education building.

During the meeting Mrs. Deal was given an honorary membership in the FCREA. A former teacher herself, she said when you retire you're always a teacher and have to continue teaching.

She shared a book with the crowd that she had been reading to students during her visits to in honor of Read Across America Day.

Mrs. Deal said the book, "Who I'd Like To Be," was written by Elizabeth Brown, a retired Georgia school teacher when she was 90-years-old.

She used the book to encourage and inspire the crowd of retired teachers to tap into their own talents to help others.

"To go into the classroom and help these young people learn, help these teachers, cause as you know they can always use a few extra hands," she said.

Mrs. Deal also added that the help is needed whether it's assisting in a before or after school program or during the lunch hour.
