How to Register to Vote in Cumming

In honor of National Voter Registration Day, we're giving you all the information you need on how and where to register to vote.

If you haven’t yet registered to vote, get it off your to-do list now.

Today is National Voter Registration Day, and thousands of local, state and national organizations have mobilized to make sure millions of people don’t miss the chance to cast their vote in this year’s elections.

Six million people didn’t vote in the 2008 elections because they either did not know how to register or because they missed the voter registration deadline.

The voter registration deadline for “Georgia” is Tuesday, Oct. 9.

Here’s information on how you can register in time for the Nov. 6 elections:

A voter registration application must be completely filled out and either USPS postmarked or otherwise delivered to the Forsyth County Voter Registrations and Elections Office no later than 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9 in order for it count.

NOTE: In Georgia, voters must be registered to vote 30 days prior to an election to be eligible to vote in that election.

Voter registration forms are available at the Voter Registrar's office located in the Forsyth County Administration Building (Suite 200) in downtown Cumming. Office hours are Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. You can also download the PDF form on the right.

Residents can also register to vote at any public library in Forsyth County, and leave the registration form with the librarian.

With the passing of the National Voter Registration Act, also known as the "Motor Voter" law, residents can register at the same time they receive their driver's license.

In order to be eligible to vote in the Nov. 6 General Election, all properly completed applications received in the Voter Registrar's office not meeting the above deadline will be processed after the election and those individuals will be eligible to vote in future elections.

In order to be eligible to register to vote a person must be a citizen of the United States and the State of Georgia; be at least 17 1/2 years of age; be a resident of the county or municipality in which he or she seeks to vote; cannot be currently serving a felony conviction; and cannot have been judicially determined to be mentally incompetent to vote.

Early voting in Forsyth County begins on Monday, Oct. 15.
