Public Encouraged to Attend Several County Meetings

Forsyth County invites residents out to three separate meetings for input on the recreation master plan and the comprehensive plan.

Three important meetings are taking place this week where public input is encouraged by Forsyth County.

Beginning tonight and Wednesday, residents have an opportunity to attend one or both public information meetings to contribute their suggestions relative to improving the county’s recreation system.

“We encourage residents to attend these public information meetings and provide their input,” said Jerry Kinsey, Director of the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Dept., in a news release.

The information gathered from public input will be used in preparing the update to the Recreation Master Plan.

The purpose of the Recreation Master Plan is to determine the type, number and location of future parks, facilities, programs, open space and trails to be provided to meet present and future needs of county residents.

“The Recreation Master Plan helps us prepare and plan for the future, so citizen input is a very important part of this process,” said Kinsey.

Tonight's meeting will be held at located at 1950 Sharon Road from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Wednesday, Aug. 24, the meeting will be held at the (banquet room) located at 2300 Keith Bridge Road from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Thursday, Aug. 25, the final community workshop for the Comprehensive Plan update will be held and again residents are encouraged to attend.

The final workshop will focus on the Community Agenda draft as determined by previous public meetings and Steering Committee input.

In a news release, the Forsyth County Planning and Community Development Department explains that each component of the draft will be available for review in an open house format. Attention will be placed on how the components relate to each other and the ways in which the different sections of the plan fit together to express and implement the community vision.

That is why public participation is a crucial part of this process, according to Forsyth County Senior Long Range Planner Vanessa Bernstein.

“We certainly encourage the public to participate again by attending this final workshop, as it is important we gather input from local individuals and institutions interested in the future direction of Forsyth County,” she said.

The state requires counties update their plans at least once every ten years. The county is continuing the update process in order to meet the state-required deadline of October 31, 2012.

Thursday night's meeting will be held at the Forsyth County Administration Building, Suite 220, located at 110 E. Main Street in downtown Cumming from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
