Public Hearing Set on Liquor Distillery Ordinance Proposal

Spirits of the USA, maker of "high-octane" 90-proof liquors, is looking to locate a facility in Forsyth County.

The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners is set to hold a public hearing to consider an amendment to the Forsyth County Alcohol Ordinance, Ordinance No. 68, to implement licensing regulations and procedures regarding distillers at the board’s regular meeting on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013 at 5 p.m.   

The hearing comes after news of a liquor distillery looking to locate in Forsyth. Spirits of the USA, maker of "high-octane" 90-proof liquors and a non-alcoholic energy drink offers the first full line of American-made, hand-crafted premium spirits, all made in the USA, except tequila.

Patch's requests for additional information on plans for the proposed distillery have yet to be answered by founder Michael Gerard.

County commissioners R.J. "Pete" Amos and Cindy Jones Mills and staffers also declined to give additional information, but provided Gerard's contact information.

The purpose of the public hearing shall be for public review and comment concerning a proposed amendment to the Forsyth County Alcohol Ordinance to implement licensing procedures and regulations regarding distillers; to provide for severability; to repeal conflicting ordinances; and for other purposes.

The public hearing will be held in the Forsyth County Administration Building, Suite 220, 110 E. Main Street in Cumming. All Forsyth County residents and any other affected and/or interested persons are invited and encouraged to attend.
