Public Meeting Thursday on Road Tax

A public meeting of the Georgia Mountains Special Tax District Regional Transportation Roundtable will be held Thursday in Forsyth County.

Forsyth County residents are encouraged to attend a public meeting hosted by the executive committee of the Georgia Mountains Special Tax District Regional Transportation Roundtable this Thursday, Sept. 22.

The public meeting will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Forsyth County Administration Building, Suite 220, 110 E. Main Street in downtown Cumming.

Attendees are invited to come and go (no formal presentation, it's an open house format) during the two hour time period and meet with regional planners, Georgia Department of Transportation engineers, and public officials to view, learn about and discuss the draft list of transportation projects.

There are at least 20 projects in Foryth County that are on the draft project list (see PDF).

Those projects are subject to the one percent sales and use tax referendum and generated by those local elected officials serving on the Georgia Mountains Special Tax District Regional Transportation Roundtable.

Citizens are invited to provide input on proposed region-wide transportation investments in advance of the 2012 referendum scheduled as a result of the HB 277 Transportation Investment Act of 2010.

HB 277 creates 12 special tax districts based on Regional Commission boundaries. Each District can levy a one percent sales tax for 10 years.
