U.S. Army Veteran Announces Candidacy for Forsyth County District 5 Commissioner

John Derucki will challenge District 5 Commissioner Jim Boff for his seat on the Board of Commissioners.

John Derucki, a veteran of the U.S. Army and a current member of the Georgia State Defense Force, announced he will seek election to the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners in District 5, according to a news release.

“As a local business owner, an active community member, a devoted father and a veteran, I understand the values of faith, family and freedom,” said Derucki in a statement. “I believe these values are important to the voters of Forsyth County and I am seeking election to the Board of Commissioners because I am committed to protecting those values while also working to ensure our community soars to new heights.”

In response to the announcement, Dist. 5 Commissioner Jim Boff told Cumming Patch on Friday that he is unsure if he will seek reelection.

David Van Sant, a small business owner, local attorney, and Chair of Derucki’s campaign committee, believes that Forsyth County needs more than a politician.

“John understands the issues and is committed to rising above politics to deliver results aimed at preserving our quality of life while also maintaining low property taxes," Van Sant said.

Derucki is the recipient of the American Spirit Honor Medal and has been recognized by the U.S. Army for his outstanding qualities of leadership, honor, initiative and loyalty.
