The Cumming Country Fair and Festival and More Fun for Fall

Taking in the Cumming Country Fair and Festival should be high on your list of the many things to do during this festive fall season in the north Georgia area.

Amazingly, or should I say, a-"maize"-ingly, autumn is here again already, and I'm gearing up for a good time at the , as well as other fun places to go for family entertainment and live music. Having topped off the last cool evening of Sept. with a jaunt to Dahlonega's Holly Theatre for a lively production of "Pump boys and Dinettes," I feel invigorated to usher in Oct. in fine festive style and take in the Cumming Fair and all its offerings.

Established in 1995, the fair has steadily grown to be an iconic part of the Cumming culture and landscape, and a real community event attracting visitors from all over Georgia and beyond. It begins Thursday, Oct. 6,  and runs through Oct. 16. To me, this event is a wonderful example of one of the few remaining golden opportunities to experience a good old fashioned slice of Americana in a truly "country" fair atmosphere, complete with a Ferris Wheel, popcorn, cotton candy, and even a living history exhibit. Incidentally, my first year at the Cumming Fair filled me with nostalgia as I grooved to the tunes of the original band "America" and then squealed with my friends like a little girl when I rode the Ferris Wheel--it was like going back in time, but in a good way! Where else can you experience that but at a place like this?

So, as you can see, in addition to all that, the manages to pack in more fun with live entertainment featuring not only local but national acts at extremely affordable prices. The past three years at the fair have held special meaning for me as I have had the pleasure and the privilege to present some very talented students in my annual student talent showcase. Thrilled to be invited back again this year, this time I am showcasing the wonderful talents of my own band in the big arena to close out Sunday evenings' performances at 5 p.m. on Oct. 9, the opening weekend of the fair. That's also the last day for a chance to experience "Statue Viva," a brand new show with a European flair based upon improvisation and audience participation.

The Cumming Country Fair and Festival is but one of many attractions to fill your calendar during this season of beautiful fall colors and assorted festivals featuring arts and crafts, family fun, and live music. I just love this time of year.

Happy October! Guess I'll go out and get my pumpkin now. In the meantime, don't tarry--I hope to see you at the fair!
