An Entire School Gives Back To Community Thursday

More than 950 students, teachers, staff and volunteers head out Thursday morning to give back to Forsyth County.

This morning Piney Grove Middle School's 950 students will not be attending class inside the school building, but rather out in the community.

Students, teachers, parents and community volunteers will be participating in the school's inaugural Grizzly Great Day of Giving (G3).

When Piney Grove opened its doors four years ago, they based its overall program on a foundation they call the "Five A's": Academics, the Arts, Athletics, Activities and Altruistic Endeavors, according to the school's principal, Terri North. The Grizzly Great Day of Giving is the school’s largest step to expand and enrich the Altruistic Endeavors aspect of the program.

“At Piney Grove we are focused on creating quality opportunities for our students that allow them to unlock the potential within themselves,” said Principal North.

Part of that potential is learning the power of giving back to the community and give back they will do. Thursday morning at 9:30 every student and staff member at Piney Grove will board buses and travel into the community to participate in 50-plus non-profits, schools and community organizations in Forsyth County. They will work with children, the elderly, the environment, the needy, the military and more.

“Our school has seen the impact of our local United Way’s ‘Day of Caring’ adult service activities on our community and thought, why not replicate that for our 1,100 staff members and students? We want our students to learn outside the walls of their school and grow their servant leadership skills," added North.
