BOE Names Keith Porter FCS Interim Superintendent

Porter recently retired from Dawson County Schools as superintendent, a position he held since 2009.

On June 2, 2014 the Forsyth County Board of Education approved the hiring of Keith Porter as Interim Superintendent.

“We are excited to have Mr. Porter step into this role as we transition during our search for the next superintendent,” stated Forsyth County Schools’ Board Chairperson Darla Light. “He has a strong reputation of being a selfless leader and has worked in partnership with our district for many years. Mr. Porter will ensure that our district continues moving in the right direction.” 

Mr. Porter recently retired from Dawson County Schools as superintendent, a position he held since 2009. His career in Dawson included service as a teacher and coach, assistant principal and principal, and in several leadership roles at the Central Office. Additionally, Mr. Porter served in numerous leadership roles with the Georgia Association of Curriculum and Instructional Supervisors (GACIS), the Georgia School Superintendents Association (GSSA), the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders (GAEL) and the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA). His received his Specialist and Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Georgia, and his Master’s degree from North Georgia College.

“Forsyth County Schools is home to outstanding teachers and staff, and I am excited to work with them,” shared Mr. Porter. “The district has a clear direction for continued excellence, and I am honored to have been trusted with this new responsibility. I look forward to meeting with staff, students, and community members and launch the opening of the 2014-15 school year.”

Mr. Porter and his wife Donna attend Coal Mountain Baptist Church and have two children.

Dr. L.C. (Buster) Evans, will be retiring as Forsyth County Schools’ superintendent on June 30, 2014. The Forsyth County Board of Education is currently conducting a superintendent search.
