Middle School Course Description:
In this course, students will discover how public speaking, note taking, grammar, mechanics, and usage rules, and proper writing skills relate to effective communication in general. Families will have the opportunity to choose between topics generated by NGWA and those already being studied at home to reinforce the importance of writing across the curriculum. The composition component of this class is designed to supplement literature classes that the home school families are already taking; therefore, homework assignments will range from 1 to 2 hours per week, and should supplement what individual families are already doing at home. Narrative, Expository, Persuasive, and non-fiction and fiction Literature Critiques will be focused upon, and grammar skills, editing techniques, and publishing methods will all be woven throughout the 10 week sessions. Class is best suited for students age 10 to 14. Β
