Recycle Bowl at Cumming Elementary

Cumming Elementary is the only Forsyth County school of over a thousand schools from across the country competing in the Recycle-Bowl, a nationwide recycling competition for elementary, middle and high school students.

Open to all schools and classrooms, the incentive-based recycling competition and benchmarking program runs from October 17 through November 12. Participating schools will track and report how much material they collect for a chance to win prizes. At the close of the four-week competition, the school in Georgia that collects the most recyclable material per capita will win $1,000. A national champion will then be chosen from among the statewide winners to receive a grand prize of $2,500.

Cumming Elementary is located at 540 Dahlonega Street and has been very involved in recycling efforts. They swept three of the top four awards, including the Top Club of the Year, by Keep Forsyth County Beautiful for 2011 this fall. They will be holding a Recycle Bowl event each Saturday from  October 29 to November 12 from 9-12 and will celebrate their efforts on November 15, which is America Recycles Day.

“The students, staff and families at Cumming Elementary are exciting about participating in a nationwide event that highlights our commitment to making our community a better place to live,” said Principal Pam Pajerski. “We hope the Forsyth County community will support our efforts by helping us collect the most recyclables in Georgia.”

“Recycle-Bowl is about much more than simply winning a prize,” said Matt McKenna, president and chief executive officer of Keep America Beautiful. “Through this fun competition, we’re providing students, teachers and administrators across the country with an opportunity to learn more about the economic and environmental benefits of recycling, and inspire their families to take similar actions both at home and in their communities.”
