Sheriff’s Office Enrolling for Hands-On Training Into Law Enforcement

The Citizens’ Law Enforcement Academy (CLEA), taught by employees of the , kicks off its free 10-week course on Monday, Jan. 23 in Cumming.

CLEA offers county residents, employees and business owners, 21 and older, hands-on training and law enforcement knowledge in a friendly environment.

"Our goal is to build a closer bond with the citizens and business owners of Forsyth County through communication and education," said Sheriff Ted Paxton.

Each week students will be offered a different course including, uniform patrol procedures, conducting traffic stops, judgmental use of force, K9 and S.W.A.T. demonstrations, ride-alongs with deputies and much more.

“There’s no other way to learn about law enforcement if you are not either involved in it or have been affected by it,” said Deputy Courtney Spriggs, Community Outreach Specialist of the FCSO.

CLEA is offered four times a year and the response from the community is always positive.

“People love it,” said Spriggs.

According to Sgt. Alan Frampton, the classes usually fill up quickly, but since it's after the holidays there is plenty of space...for now.
