Flu Shots, Mist Available at Forsyth Schools Oct. 16, 17

The Forsyth County Health Department is vaccinating the student body on the early release days in October, but a parent must be present.

Forsyth County Schools is helping vaccinate its student body in an effort to protect it from the flu.

On the early release days in October, the Forsyth County Health Department will offer flu vaccinations with one of two kinds of vaccine:

  • Flumist (Intranasal Live Influenza Virus Vaccine) is a flu vaccine that is sprayed into the nose.
  • Inactivated Influenza Vaccine (IIV) is a flu vaccine that is given as a shot. The inactivated flu shot will either be a  Trivalent (IIV3) or Quadrivalent (IIV4) vaccine.

All school children ages 4 to 18 years are eligible. If they have certain types of insurance, the insurance provider will be charged.

The dates of the immunization on early-release days are:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 2 to 5 p.m. at North Forsyth High School and
  • Thursday, Oct. 17, from 2 to 5 pm at South Forsyth High School.

Parents who wish to have their children vaccinated on one of these days should review the documents below and sign and return the Flu Consent Form to the school nurse by Friday, Oct. 11.

If parents and caregivers do not complete the form prior to the dates, forms and insurance cards should be brought with families to the flu clinics.

If the child does not have insurance, the vaccine will be given at no charge.
