Forsyth County Schools Names Teacher of the Year

Ann Aigner-Muehler a foreign language teacher at Forsyth Central High School is the Teacher of the Year for 2012.

Anna Aigner-Muehler, a foreign language teacher at Forsyth Central High School, is this year's recipient of Forsyth County Schools High School Teacher of the Year for 2012.

A graduate of Forsyth County Schools, Aigner-Muehler received her Bachelor’s degree from Agnes Scott College and her Master’s degree from Leslie University. She started her teaching career as a Fulbright Teaching Assistant in Austria, and joined Forsyth Central High School in 2000. In 2009 she became a teacher leader at the district's Academy at Night.

Aigner-Muehler is a 2009 STAR teacher and serves as the sponsor of her school’s German Club. She also manages the Instructional Focus (IF) program and is the Foreign Language Department Chair.

Friday's event marked the 16th year of "A Celebration of Excellence" held at the Forsyth Conference Center. Hundreds of people from Forsyth County Schools (FCS), the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce (CFCCC), Northside Hospital-Forsyth, local government officials, members of the business community, along with family and friends were in attendance.

The event also acknowledged Partners in Education, Parent Leaders, and Teachers of the Year from various grade levels.

"We have approximately 800 active partners working with 35 schools and various departments in our system," said Dr. L.C. (Buster) Evans, Superintendent of FCS, in his speech to the crowd. "Last school year our partners provided $1.5 million in funding to our schools."

Evans said these funds along with thousands of volunteer hours have improved student achievement in all subject areas and boosted educator support and morale. 

In addition to the 34 teachers who were named 2012 school level Teachers of the Year, Jim Cheatham was named 2012 Mentor of the Year, La Cazuela received the 2012 Friend of the Year award, and Therese Batson was awarded the 2012 Volunteer of the Year award.

The 2012 Silver Program of the Year Award went to American Proteins and Jim N'Nicks. The 2012 Gold Program of the Year award went to Hobby Lobby and Browns Bridge Community Church, and the Don Hendricks Partnership Award was given to RBM Atlanta-North.
