Forsyth Schools Request Input on Admissions, Attendance Policies

The board of education officially named the county's 14th elementary school and established 2014 meeting dates.

The Forsyth County Board of Education is requesting input on possible changes to the system's admissions and attendance policies.

The board discussed the issues at the Dec. 12 board meeting, which can be viewed above or by clicking here.

Policy JBC: School Admissions 
The Board reviewed recommended changes to Policy JBC (School Admissions) based on the reporting process for change of address for families of rising sixth- and eighth-graders. Click here to review the revisions and provide feedback.

Finance Report: As of November, the Board learned the system is at 42.18 percent for the budget year. The Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax revenues for October 2013 were down 1.64 percent from October 2012 collections and down 2.71 percent from last month. Afinancial statement, investment reports, and bond summaries were also shared, as well as a detailed capital projects analysis.

Highlights of Action Items  

The following items were approved:

Naming of ES No. 14: The Board approved naming the district's twenty-first elementary school Brandywine ES. This school is located on Martin Drive off McFarland Parkway and has a projected opening date of Fall 2016. Brandywine ES is named after the former Brandywine School that burned in 1953, and the name Brandywine honors a Revolutionary War veteran who lived in this area and fought in the 1777 Battle of Brandywine.

Establish 2014 Meeting Dates: The Board approved their work session and regular monthly meeting schedule for 2014. Other than a few exceptions, the Board will meet on the second and third Thursday of each month. Click here to view the list of approved meetings.
