Georgia Teen Ride with P.R.I.D.E. Course Set for Cumming

The free class is aimed at addressing driver attitudes, knowledge and behavior for new and soon-to-be drivers.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is registering new and soon-to-be drivers for a free course aimed at addressing driver attitudes, knowledge and behavior.

In cooperation with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and the University of Georgia’s Traffic Injury Prevention Institute, the sheriff's office is presenting the Georgia Teens Ride with P.R.I.D.E. (Parents Reducing Incidents of Driver Error) program, according to the press release.

It was created by GTIPI in an effort to reduce the high number of crashes, injuries and fatalities involving teen drivers in the state of Georgia. This program addresses driver’s attitude, knowledge and behavior rather than technical “hands-on” driver’s skills. It compliments driver’s education and training. While completion of this course may reduce insurance rates, it does NOT count towards the required 40 hours of supervised driving practice.

The nationally recognized P.R.I.D.E. program is a FREE, 2-hour course, for which participants must register, that is designed to help parents and their new or soon-to-be, teen drivers, ages 14 to 16, learn what they need to do during the 40 hours of supervised practice driving time. A parent or guardian MUST attend this course with the teen. (Although this course targets teens 14 to 16 years old, teens of any age may attend). Classes are held quarterly.

Classes in Cumming are set for Thursday, Sept. 19, and Thursday, Dec. 19, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Forsyth County Public Safety Complex at 3520 Settingdown Road in Cumming.
