Help Name New Forsyth School Set for Martin Drive

Forsyth County Schools are seeking input through Nov. 8 for the name of the new elementary school south of the city of Cumming.

The Forsyth County Board of Education is seeking input from stakeholders on the name of what will be the Forsyth Schools' 21st elementary school, according to the system website.

The land on which the school is expected to be built is on Martin Drive, off Highway 9, one block south of McFarland.

The building will be a one story and similar in design to the existing Kelly Mill Elementary.

Name recommendations must provide detail with respect to the historical background or significance of a suggestion, officials say. Names of living people are not eligible for submission.

All name recommendations will be reviewed by Forsyth Schools staff and three to four possible names will be presented to feeder school Local School Councils for a vote, with the final recommendation being presented to the Board of Education on Dec. 12.

The new school is projected to be populated with students from Midway, Vickery Creek and Shiloh Point elementary schools, but attendance lines will not be determined until the school's projected 2016 opening date nears.
