Lambert Student First Recipient of New Scholarship Program

Rachel Bandy, a senior at  is the first recipient of a new scholarship program called CTE (Career and Technical Education) Student of the Month Club.

Bandy received the $500 scholarship during a surprise ceremony held at her high school on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

“I was absolutely speechless when I walked into my classroom to see CEV representatives holding a $500 check written to me," said Rachel Bandy.

CEV Multimedia is a producer of CTE multimedia materials, specializing in providing quality curriculum and educational resources for several major subject areas.

In a news release, Bandy was nominated by her teacher and DECA advisor, Michelle Urrea, who says Bandy serves as a strong leader to her peers at her high school and in her community.

“I am beyond excited for Rachel to receive this scholarship from CEV,” Urrea said. “Through her DECA chapter and class involvement, she deserves every bit of it and more!”

Bandy is in her fourth year as a DECA member, and she currently serves as the chapter’s Vice President. She is an active participant and leader in all community service activities and fundraising.

She played an integral role in organizing and leading her school’s Miss LHS Pageant, raising more than $2,000 for her DECA chapter and $850 to a selected charity. She plans to attend Louisiana State University and is interested in studying public relations.

Bandy credits her strong work ethic to her role model.

“My mother is an amazing role model,” she said. “She is a seven year , and is a strong, independent person who puts others before herself.”

According to CTE, winners are selected based on involvement within high school organizations, service within their community and other accomplishments they have received as a student. Eligible students must be either a high school junior or senior, and must have participated in a CTE student organization for at least two years.
