Local Students Awarded UGA Scholarships

Cumming graduates among group of incoming freshmen to receive award.

Two local students have been awarded the One UGA Scholarship.

The $1,500 scholarship is provided to academically outstanding incoming freshmen at the University of Georgia who will contribute to the diversity of the freshmen class. According to a press release from UGA, preference is given to those who are the first in their families to attend college.

graduate Andrew Rabanal, son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor and Michele Rabanal, and graduate Francisco deArmas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Marie deArmas were among this year’s recipients.

The scholarship is offered in addition to the HOPE scholarship for Georgia high school graduates. Out of state recipients are eligible for a Regents Waiver that covers the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition.

Recipients who meet certain academic standards may renew the scholarship for an additional three years of undergraduate study.
