New Charter School Submits State Application

International Charter School of Atlanta would be open to all Georgia students.

A proposed charter school in Forsyth County submitted its application to the State Board of Education on Friday with the hope of opening in 2014.

While the International Charter School of Atlanta has plans to locate in South Forsyth near 400, it would be open to students from any county in Georgia since its board submitted its application to the state as it wanted to be open to students from multiple counties.

The school has the ultimate goal of enabling its students to become fluent in multiple languages through a triple-language immersion program.

According to board member Christina Crumbley, the school will have 420 slots open for grades K-8, and already has some 450 "intents to apply." She said the board intends for the school to open in time for the 2014-15 school year, and that each year it hopes to add an additional grade.

"We are petitioning for a year-round calendar," Crumbley said, which means the school would open July 2014.
