School Starts in Forsyth County in Less Than a Month

It may be the middle of July, but the 2011-12 school year is just around the corner.

The countdown has begun.

In less than a month--Thursday, Aug. 11--the 2011-12 school year begins for students attending Forsyth County Schools.

Here are some key dates on the school calendar to help you start planning out the year.

Aug. 11: First day of school.

Sept. 5: Labor Day (school holiday).

Sept. 28: Early release for professional development

Oct. 19-21: Early release for parent conference (K-8)

Oct. 31: Professional development (student holiday)

Nov. 21-25: Thanksgiving break (school holidays)

Dec. 20: End of first semester (87 days)

Dec. 21-Jan. 3: Holiday Break

Jan 4: Professional development (student holiday)

Jan 5: Second semester starts

Jan. 16: MLK Day (school holiday).

Feb. 17: Professional development (student holiday)

Feb. 20: Presidents Day (school holiday)

Feb. 21: Inclement Weather Day (#1)

Feb. 27-28: Early release for middle and elementary schools

March 16: Early release for parent conference (K-12)

March 19: Inclement Weather Day (#2)

April 2-6: Spring break (school holidays)

April 27: Inclement Weather Day (#3)

May 25: Last day of school (end of second semester, 91 days)
