Slugfest To Award Fall 2014 College Scholarships To Forsyth Residents

Special consideration will be given to students who have participated in the Forsyth County Slugfest Baseball Tournament or the Forsyth County Parks & Recreation Baseball/Softball Program.

The Forsyth County Slugfest board has announced plans to award as many as six students up to $1,000 each in scholarships for the Fall 2014 term.

The financial grants will be awarded to help assist students with their unmet education expenses such as tuition, books, supplies, etc., according to the press release. The scholarships will be awarded to college students who reside in Forsyth County with special consideration for students who have participated in the Forsyth County Slugfest Baseball Tournament or the Forsyth County Parks & Recreation Baseball/Softball Program.

Forsyth County Slugfest scholarship awards are determined by documents provided by student. The student must provide a written statement explaining why they should be considered along with a written recommendation from an instructor, coach, employer or community member as part of the application.

The Forsyth County Slugfest is an annual youth travel baseball tournament held each March throughout Forsyth County and has donated more than $175,000 of profits to community based charities over the past seven years.

The 2013 Slugfest had 286 teams play in the tournament and a similar turnout is expected for the 2014 edition.
