has been rated as one of the best high schools in the United States for the 2012 school year by Newsweek Magazine.

Out of the top 27,000 public high schools in the nation, South Forsyth High is rated as the 265th best school. This rating places them in the top .009 percent of schools in the country, according to Forsyth County Schools.

“As a community of learners, we continue to maintain high expectations, demonstrate a love for learning, and most of all care about kids,” said Principal Jason Branch of SFHS in a news release.

This year, Newsweek’s ranking highlights the best 1,000 public high schools across the nation — these are the schools that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready grads.

"The fruits of this labor continue to be demonstrated by the achievement of our students and the recognition for our educational institution. I am grateful for our staff and their hard work in preparing our young people," said Branch.

The list is based on six components provided by school administrators:

  • Graduation Rate (25 percent)
  • College Matriculation Rate (25 percent)
  • AP/IB/AICE tests taken per student (25 percent)
  • Average SAT/ACT scores (10 percent)
  • Average AP/IB/AICE scores (10 percent)
  • AP courses offered per student (5 percent)
