Statewide Association Recognizes Liberty Middle in Cumming

Liberty Middle School recently won big during the Georgia Association of Middle School Principals' 2013 Annual Fall Conference, held in Savannah. The Forsyth County school in Cumming brought home numerous recognitions, including:

• The 2013 Educational Patron award for Vulcan Materials,
• The 2013-2016 Effective Middle School Program award for its iTeam initiative,
• Connie Stovall received the District 14 Outstanding Principal Award, and
• Robin Sweat earned the District 14 Outstanding Assistant Principal Award and went on to win the Georgia 2013 Outstanding Assistant Principal Award.

“I am humbled by this award and look forward to representing Georgia nationally in the months ahead,” said Sweat, who will now go on to national competition.

“We are honored to receive all of these recognitions,” Stovall said. “Vulcan’s support has been vital in many of the programs we offer here, and we sincerely appreciate their continued efforts to provide these experiences for our students.” 

Vulcan was recognized as an outstanding business partner for Liberty Middle. Only three companies in the state received the high honor.

The Effective Middle School Program Award is to recognize schools “with effective middle grades education programs,” according to the GAMSP website. 

Liberty’s iTeam program competed with others statewide and will hold the designation for three years as an initiative that best exemplifies the philosophy of middle school while assuring academic success for its students.
