Elementary School Opens Outdoor Classroom

The outdoor classroom offers a special space for students to enjoy the outdoors, write in their journals, and read while enjoying the fresh air.

Coal Mountain Elementary recently celebrated the grand opening of its Garden and Outdoor Classroom.

Students, parents, volunteers, teachers and staff, including Science Enrichment teacher Denise Webb, parent green team member Suzanne Geddes and Superintendent Dr. L.C. (Buster) Evans all joined in the dedication of the new garden.

"These people played an important role in getting our garden put together," said Principal Debbie Smith. "We have seven raised beds, a three bin composter, benches, work table, shed, and tree stump seats. Our fall vegetables planted by our second grade are almost ready to harvest."
