What's New with Forsyth County Schools?

The latest news and updates by the Forsyth County Board of Education.

The following summary was taken from the Sept. 13 and 20 meetings of the Board of Education as published in the "September 2012 Board Briefs."

Charter School Amendment Resolution: The Board discussed an amendment on the November ballot, which seeks to change the Constitution of Georgia to allow an appointed Charter School Commission the authority to approve state charter schools. The Forsyth County Board of Education passed a resolution at their meeting which they feel will show support for quality public education in Georgia. 

Finance Report: As of August, the Board learned the system is at 17.51 percent for the budget year. The Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax revenues for July 2012 were up 0.005 percent from July 2011 collections but down 1.92 percent from last month. A financial statement, investment reports, and bond summaries were also shared, as well as a detailed capital projects analysis.

Student Support Services Update (Anti-Bullying Focus): An update was presented on Student Support Services with a particular focus on prevention services and the correlation of support services to school climate. Click here to view the presentation.

Parent Tech Toolbox: The Board was provided an overview of a Parent Tech Toolbox recently developed through the Instructional Technology Department. This is a resource to support parents as they work with their students and also answer questions about topics such as online safety, digital footprint, and social media. Click here to visit the Parent Tech Toolbox!

Marine Corps JROTC Awards: North Forsyth HS was named a National Naval Honor School for the 7th consecutive year and won a Marine Corps Reserve Officers Association Outstanding Unit Award for the 2nd consecutive year.

Road-e-o Competition Winner: Neil McBrayer (Bus Driver, Transportation) was recognized for winning the district Road-e-o Competition. He went on to finish 2nd place in state and 4th place in international competition.
