Superior Performance Spotlight: School social workers who represent Cumming ES, Whitlow ES, Otwell MS, and Forsyth Central HS provided information on their back to school event called Project Connect.

Highlights of Presentation and Discussion Items

The following items were presented to the board: 

2014-15 Student Calendar Draft: The Board reviewed a draft of the 2014-15 student calendar draft after feedback was provided from Local School Councils. The draft can be reviewed and feedback provided from October 11 - November 1 by completing an online survey. The Board will approve the final 2014-15 student calendar onNovember 21, 2013. Click here for more information and here to provide feedback. 

School Safety Update: The Board was provided an update on school safety. The presentation included information on safety committee meetings, results of suggested items, SRO update, department teaching update, and other pending items. Click here to view the presentation.

Transportation Update: The Board was provided an update on transportation and the current status of the services and programs offered. Click here to view the presentation.

2014-19 Local Facilities Plan Update: An update was provided about the development of the 2014-19 Local Facilities Plan. This update included details of the October 7, 2013 committee meeting and details in reference to facilities planning. Click here to view the recent committee meeting notes.   

FCS Aspiring Leaders Program:  Details of a newly 
re-designed Aspiring Leaders Program was presented. The purpose of the Aspiring Leaders Program is to support the aspiring leader in understanding how a strong sense of our core essence of leadership, along with professional skills and competencies, helps to shape the effectiveness as a leader. Timeline to Name ES #14: The timeline and process for naming the new ES #14 was reviewed. This will be Forsyth County's 21st elementary school when it opens (projected) in 2016 and is located on Martin Drive (near McFarland Road). Click here to view the timeline.

Finance Report: As of September, the Board learned the system is at 25.66 percent for the budget year. The Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax revenues for August 2013 were down 0.88 percent from August 2012 collections but up 6.11 percent from last month. A financial statement, investment reports, and bond summaries were also shared, as well as a detailed capital projects analysis.

Highlights of Action Items 

The following items were approved:

2014-15 District Lines Draft No. 2: The Board approved District Lines Draft No. 2 for the 2014-15 school year. This draft will now go online for public feedback. There are two scheduled public forums on Oct. 22 (elementary) and Oct. 24 (secondary) that will give parents the opportunity voice their concerns and/or provide suggestions. Click here for more information.

GSBA Legislative Liaison: The Board selected Kristin Morrissey as the GSBA Legislative Liaison for the 2014 session of the Georgia General Assembly. The two primary functions of the Legislative Liaison is to receive and "pass through" to other members of the board and superintendent important actions of the Georgia General Assembly as they unfold and to communicate legislative needs upon request to legislators representing the school district.
