Deadline Approaching for Peachtree Road Race T-Shirt Design
Artists wanting to submit a design for the 2012 Peachtree Road Race have until Feb. 28 to get their designs in. Five finalists will be made know on March 15 when online registration for the event opens.
The deadline for this year’s Peachtree Road Race T-shirt Design contest is Feb. 28. Local artists and graphic designers are asked to submit their T-shirt designs for the event by that date.
According to a press release, a panel of judges, representing the Atlanta Track Club, the Atlanta Journal Constitution and local graphic artists, will select five finalists. These will be revealed on March 15, the day the online lottery opens for registration for the 2012 Peachtree Road Race. The public will then have until April 30 to vote for their favorite T-shirt design. The winning design will only be revealed on the day of the race, July 4, 2012. Organizers said this has been the procedure followed to determine the design of the Peachtree finisher’s shirt since 1995.
“The unveiling of the T-shirt design at the finish of the AJC Peachtree Road Race has become a cherished tradition at the Fourth of July event, and it’s always wonderful to be able to showcase the work of talented artists through the AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirt Design Contest,” said Tracey Russell, executive director of the Atlanta Track Club, in a press release. “The contest also provides a fun way for event participants and Peachtree fans to have a say in what’s featured on the T-shirts.”

Jessica Ferguson, of Kennesaw, was the winner of last year’s design. As well as having their design featured on 60,000 AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirts, the winner will receive $1,000. The four runners up will receive $100. Go to the t-shirt contest page for details of the contest and the entry form.
Organizers also want to remind runners that registration for this year's race opens on Thursday, March 15, through an online lottery. Those who want a shot at being one of the 60,000 participants selected for the 43rd running of the Peachtree Road Race can register for the lottery online from 7 a.m. on Thursday, March 15 to 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2012. Organizers said that regardless of the day or time one enters, all individuals and groups who enter the lottery will have an equal chance of being selected for the road race. Entrants will be randomly selected after the lottery closes on March 22. All lottery entrants will be notified by Monday, March 26, letting them know whether they were selected for the 2012 event or not. Searchable results of the selection process also will be posted on the Peachtree Road Race Website on March 26.

The 43rd running of the Peachtree Road Race will take place on Wednesday, July 4, 2012. Entry into the 10K event is $35 plus applicable online processing fees.
