Forsyth Friday Night Football Recap

West Forsyth, Lambert stay unbeaten; North Forsyth, Forsyth Central fall.

West Forsyth 21
Etowah 13

Defense and special teams play carried the load for undefeated West Forsyth Friday night as the Wolverines knocked off Etowah 21-13.

“It’s a great feeling for our kids,” said head coach Frank Hepler, who got thumped by Etowah 41-14 last year. “This is a good indication that we are improving, but we are not there yet.”

Mohammed Camara intercepted an Etowah pass and took it 50 yards to open the scoring. West Forsyth’s special teams blocked a punt on the next series and AJ Erdely scored from 1-yard out to go up 14-0.

With a few minutes before the half, Etowah bounced back on a 40-yard counter run to cut it to 14-6, but Blake Roberts found the end zone for West Forsyth to make it 21-6 at half. Roberts finished the day with 125 yards on 18 carries.

Hepler said Etowah scored with about nine minutes remaining to make it 21-13, but West Forsyth was able to maintain possession for the rest of the game as time expired.

West Forsyth visits Rockmart next week.

Creekview  21
Lambert  24

Leading 21-0 at half, Lambert let the Grizzlies sneak back into it but managed to hang on 24-21 Friday night.

“I’m never upset with a victory,” said Sid Maxwell, head coach of the 3-0 Longhorns. “They battled back with some trick plays and we had a couple of turnovers, but we were able to hang on.”

Maxwell said the Longhorns sealed the deal with a late interception by Braxton Roman. Daniel Myers led the way on offense scoring two rushing touchdowns as Brock Maxwell added a third. They had approximately 350 yards of total offense.

Lambert heads to South Forsyth (1-1) next week.

Chattahoochee 34
Forsyth Central 7

Unable to capitalize on offense and forfeiting too many big plays on defense, Forsyth Central was handed their second straight loss by the defending state champs Friday night.

“They are obviously a good football team, but most of their touchdowns were over 30 yards,” said Bulldog coach Chris Bennett. “Our kids played hard. Defensively they were in position but we just had trouble making open field tackles. That is something we are going to have to work on.”

Sophomore Shay Hollis scored Forsyth Central’s lone touchdown, rushing for 160 yards on the night.

“Offensively, we moved the ball,” said Bennett. “We just couldn’t find the end zone.”

Hillgrove 45
North Forsyth 0

The undefeated Hillgrove Hawks, ranked as one of the top teams in the state, proved too much for North Forsyth, blanking the Raiders 45-0 Friday night.

Despite a bye last Friday, the Raiders are still looking for their first win. They head to Etowah next week to face the (1-2) Eagles.
