Half Marathon Debuts Sunday at Lake Lanier Islands

Record number of women sign up for upcoming half marathon this weekend at Lake Lanier Islands.

The ZOOMA Atlanta Half Marathon and 5K debuts at Lake Lanier Islands this Sunday, April 22 at 7:30 a.m. It's the first road race of its kind at the resort.

ZOOMA is a unique women’s race series that was invented to celebrate fitness, motivation, and sisterhood.

Organizers expect more than 750 people, mainly women, to run the half marathon distance this weekend, according to a news release. And a record number of participants have registered for both events, with 1,039 runners and walkers confirmed this week. Of this number, 98 percent are women.

This year’s ZOOMA event supports 'The Orange Duffel Bag Foundation.' The nonprofit group provides professional life plan and goal achievement coaching to at-risk youth (ages 12-24).

Register online for both distances, 13.1 miles and 3.1 miles, through 10 p.m., April 19. Late registrations will be accepted at packet pick locations during designated packet pick up hours until the race is filled. No race day registration for the 5K and the half marathon races.
