Rugby Returns to the Polo Fields in South Forsyth

The Polo Fields in south Forsyth County is the hot spot for next month's rugby tournament.

Rugby will be the name of the game on the Polo Fields in south Forsyth County next month when the Hotlanta Sevens tournament returns for a third year.

The Atlanta Old White Rugby Football Club and The Atlanta Harlequins–a women's team–will be the hosts. The tournament will be Saturday, July 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and it's open to the public.

"Last year's attendance was around 400 people and 38 teams," said Trey Dickson, a player and representative of the Old White Club. He also owns a South Forsyth business, and his wife, Tasha, plays for The Atlanta Harlequins.

The tourney hotel is Holiday Inn Express - Windward Pkwy and the social will be next door at the Tilted Kilt - Alpharetta, Dickson said.

"We have Men's Premier, Men's Social, Men's Collegiate, Women's Premier, Women's Collegiate, and U19 Boys Divisions." he said.

The Old White and Harlequins teams were the 2011 Premier Men and Women's Division winners.

Dickson said Rugby 7's is now an Olympic sport for men and women and will played at the 2016 Rio Summer Games. He said his team, Old White, has been in the top 10 7's team in the nation the past 3 years. The Harlequins came in 9th in the nation last year at the National Championship in San Francisco.

Entry fees for teams range from $100-$300 for the premier division, but register by July 2 or the team will pay a $50 late fee. Electronic registration is available on the Old White and Atlanta Harlequins' Web sites. Or e-mail Tasha Mannino‐Dickson for more information.
