The 4th Annual Boulder Dash 5K Coming Soon

Online registration is open through Thursday, April 11.

On Saturday, April 13, the fourth annual Boulder Dash 5K will take place as thousands of participants of all ages will either run or walk along a course through a hard rock quarry in Cumming.

The popular road race, organized by the Healthcare Association of Forsyth County, an initiative of the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce, begins at 9 a.m. and the last day to register online is Thursday, April 11.

Registration is $30, children 10 and under pay $15 with proceeds from this year’s race benefitting the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation and the “Envision a Fit Forsyth” program. All participants who pre-register will receive a performance shirt at the finish line.

The Boulder Dash 5K is one of two quarry races in the United States. A new company, according to Jason Mock of the chamber, now owns the Cumming quarry.

"LaFarge recently sold their property in January to Bluegrass Materials Company out of Jacksonville, Florida," he said. "And they have graciously stepped up to the plate, their first year, and said 'we want to be a part of this, we want to be a part of this community,' so they are sponsoring this race along Northside Hospital-Forsyth."

The road race begins at the hospital and will continue up Ronald Reagan Boulevard and into the quarry. At the finish line, Bluegrass Materials Company will host the Spring Fling inside the quarry property with live music, food and beverages, family activities and educational displays showing how the quarry operates.

"This event is based off our healthcare community building a bridge with our business community and having a vision of a fit Forsyth," said Mock.

Organizers of the Boulder Dash 5K are expecting about 1,300 participants in this year's road race. Visit the website for more information.

"It's a great opportunity for team building, for families," said Mock.
