FDA Recalls Arctic Zero Frozen Desserts for Bad Labels

Consumers with milk allergies probably already understood whey proteins are derived from milk, so they might have left the Arctic Zero desserts in grocery store freezers.

People with milk allergies probably know that whey proteins are a derivative of milk, but some Arctic Zero frozen desserts weren't labeled correctly, so they've been recalled by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Nobody has been reported as getting ill from the desserts, all of which were produced before March 2012, the FDA said in its notice. If you find any of the following flavors labeled as being produced in February 2012 or earlier, you've got a recalled product in your freezer: Pints of Chocolate, Vanilla Maple, Mint Chocolate Cookie, Cookies and Cream, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Coffee, Strawberry, Pumpkin Spice, and the 4-pack chocolate dipped bars–Strawberry and Orange Cream & Chocolate and Vanilla.

The difference between the recalled frozen desserts and what has been produced since February 2012 is simply the label, which now reads “Contains whey protein, which is a derivative of dairy.” People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
