Forsyth Summer Camp Registration Opens Saturday

Youth summer camps through the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation will include a variety of options including day camps, sports camps and specialty camps throughout June and July.

Forsyth County Parks and Recreation announces registration for the 2014 summer camps will open on Saturday, March 15. Youth summer camps will include a variety of options including day camps, sports camps and specialty camps throughout June and July.  

Summer Day Camps
The week-long day camps at Central Park, Fowler Park and Old Atlanta Park offer unique and exciting adventures as well as one field trip per session. The camps will be held at the county recreation centers from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for ages 6-10. Extended hours are available for an additional cost.  

Camp themes include Summer Safari, Mystery, Magic and More, Recreation Rodeo, Georgia Adventures, CSI: Camp Science Investigation, H2Overload and Build It Bash.

The cost of each camp is $100. Central Park is located at 2300 Keith Bridge Road. Fowler Park is located at 4110 Carolene Way. Old Atlanta Park is located at 810 Nichols Road.  

Safety Town
Young children ages 4 to 6 are invited to learn important safety tips in a fun way this summer with the week-long Safety Town camps. Topics covered during the five-day program include fire safety, water safety, car and bus safety, stranger danger, poison safety, gun safety and more. Children will also enjoy learning traffic safety while driving kid carts through the child-size “Safety Town Village.” This year’s Safety Town camps will be held at Sharon Springs Park.

Safety Town camps will offered each week in June. Parents can select either a 9 a.m. to noon session or a 1 to 4 p.m. session.  

The cost is $85 per session. Sharon Springs Park is located at 1950 Sharon Road.  

Whitewater Kayak Camp
Youth ages 12 to 15 are invited to enter the world of whitewater kayaking in a safe, fun and enriching environment with the week-long Whitewater Kayak Camp. Experienced instructors will introduce campers to the basic elements of kayaking and water safety. The camp involves a variety of fun activities including games and swimming. All equipment is provided. The camp will culminate with a rafting trip on the Ocoee River.  

Three sessions of Whitewater Kayak Camp will be offered this summer (June 16-20, June 23-27 and July 21-25). The camp will meet each day from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sawnee Mountain Preserve.  

The cost is $220 per session. The Sawnee Mountain Preserve is located at 4075 Spot Road.

Registration will be taken in person at the county’s three recreation centers, located at Central Park, Fowler Park and Old Atlanta Park Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration will also be accepted via fax and mail.  

Please note that costs listed are for Forsyth County residents. There is an additional 20 percent charge for non-residents.
