Road Maintenance Set for Forsyth, Area Counties This Week

Mowing and sealing of cracks in asphalt is set for two state routes in Cumming.

The Georgia Department of Transportation is set to perform routine maintenance activities this week in Forsyth, Dawson, Hall and Gwinnett counties, if weather permits.

Most activities will only require shoulder or median lane closures, according to the press release. Following is a tentative schedule; if emergency response is needed at a crash scene or if emergency repairs are necessary the schedule will change.

Crews are set to work Monday, Nov. 18, through Friday, Nov. 22, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., if weather permits. Lane closures are required for patching asphalt, and a flagman or pilot vehicle will direct traffic through the work zone.

Hall: A crew will seal cracks in the asphalt on SR 53/Winder Highway daily. Lane closures will be required as this work occurs on SR 53/Winder Highway and SR 332. Another crew will mow the slopes alongside SR 369; the shoulder of the roadway will be closed as this work occurs.

Dawson: A crew will trim vegetation alongside SR 136 while another crew re-stripes faded pavement markings on SR 53 from SR 400 to SR 9. A lane closure will be required daily as new striping goes down on the asphalt.

Gwinnett: A crew will repair broken fences along the Interstate 85 right-of-way line while another crew trims vegetation on SR 8/U.S. 29. Cracks in the asphalt driving surface will be sealed on SR 141 requiring a lane closure and a culvert extension is planned on SR 8/US 29 in Dacula, closing the shoulder of the roadway.

Motorists should reduce their speed in these and all work zones.
