Forsyth County Man Named Olympus Volunteer of the Year

Forsyth County resident Richard Metro receives Olympus Visionary Volunteer of the Year Award.

Richard Metro, a resident of Forsyth County, was recognized as the 'Olympus Visionary Volunteer of the Year' for his work with as a volunteer photographer for several years. His photography skills benefit not only the organization, but homeowners as well.

“Habitat North Central Georgia builds 17 homes per year across widely-dispersed areas of three counties in North Metro Atlanta and Richard is present at one or more of these build sites virtually every weekend to photograph our homeowners and volunteers”, said Russ Hayes, Habitat North Central Georgia CEO in a news release.

Metro has photographed Habitat’s major events such as the “First Nail” and home dedication ceremonies, the volunteer appreciation dinner and homeowner Christmas party. Hayes said, “The time, energy and skills that Richard provides to Habitat are invaluable and are truly appreciated. He does a wonderful job at capturing the work of the ministry, the joy of our homeowners and the sweat and satisfaction of our volunteers.”

Hayes wrote to the committee back in July and nominated Metro for the Olympus award. Habitat received notification of Metro’s selection last month. The Visionary Volunteer Program at Olympus encourages and supports employees in giving back to the communities where they live and work.

“Habitat has utilized his [Metro's] photos for press releases, in slideshows at events, and in the organizations marketing materials, e-newsletters and annual reports. Through his Web site, the Habitat homeowners, volunteers, house sponsors, Board members and staff are able to recapture the joy of their participation in the Habitat experience.”
