WATCH D.O.G.S., Dads Giving Back

The WATCH D.O.G.S. program continues to grow exponentially in Forsyth County with a team of dedicated dads who serve as mentors and leaders as well as increasing the level of safety in our schools.

Cumming wife and mom Melissa Grahovac was inspired to establish  the WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) Program at Midway Elementary School after seeing a special on ABC Nightline (click here).

WATCH D.O.G.S., is the father involvement initiative of the National Center for Fathering that organizes fathers, and father figures in order to provide positive male role models for students and to enhance school security.

The program in Forsyth County started with seven volunteers. Now that roster has grown to a troop of more than 100 volunteers at Midway Elementary School, to include six additional local elementary and middle schools.

A typical WATCH D.O.G.S. day includes hall duty, cafeteria and playground support, one-on-one mentoring and classroom assistance. Several of the dads said  the kids are excited to see them in the car line each morning.

The most obvious thread that binds these men is their commitment to children; most having served as coaches for grade school students in some capacity. Their creative recruiting style and insight into making a difference in their community is inspiring to students, staff and faculty alike.
