North Forsyth will compete with nine other high school teams on March 8-9, 2013.
Baseball will begin for 2013 this week at Coolray Field in nearby Lawrenceville, as 10 high school teams, including one from Forsyth County will compete in a two-day, five-game event. On March 8-9, teams from North Forsyth, South Gwinnett, Mountain View, Lanier, North Gwinnett, Providence Christian, Duluth, Collins Hill, Brookwood, and Peachtree Ridge will take to the diamond in the event's debut. “We’ve had singular events before, showcasing some top high school baseball teams in the area,” Gwinnett Braves General Manager North Johnson said in a news release. “Through the efforts of the community and our staff, we have expanded to welcome the largest high school showcase in the history of Coolray Field. Hundreds of fans waited for hours and hours to meet and greet players with the Atlanta Braves Tuesday in Cumming.
The 2013 Braves Country Caravan kicked off its southeast tour at Academy Sports + Outdoors located in The Avenue Forsyth Tuesday in Cumming. Nearly 500 fans waited in line for a chance to meet and get autographs from ball players Tim Hudson, Andrelton Simmons, Jonny Venters, Paul Janish and Braves Announcer Don Sutton. The caravan will be on the road for two weeks traveling nearly 3000 miles of Braves country to meeting and greeting fans prior to taking off for Spring Training. Cumming Patch caught up with Pitcher Jonny Venters and Shortstop Paul Janish and asked them about spring training, the upcoming baseball season and what fans can expect. More than 1,000 guests enjoyed Central Park's recent inaugural Opening Day celebration.
What do a United States Congressman and the Gwinnett Braves mascot have in common? They were all featured on the pitcher's mound at Central Park's inaugural Opening Day Celebration Saturday, April 14. Parents and visitors lined the streets to cheer as more than 600 baseball and softball players paraded around the park. More than 1,000 guests enjoyed the gaming trailer, national anthem, concessions, and cameos by local mascots, including Spare the Bear from Stars & Strikes and Menchie. Miracle League spring season comes to a close with a family gathering at Coal Mountain Park.
Players, coaches, buddies, and families gathered for a final time during the Spring 2011 season at Miracle League field at Coal Mountain Park this weekend. It was, according to Jerry Dupree, "a family reunion for all our families." Dupree, president of the Cumming-Forsyth Miracle League shared that during the season families are at the field at various times and do not get a chance to visit. According to Carroll Edge, a retired military colonel, there were 128 athletes on ten teams this year. Edge currently serves as co-fundraising chair for the league.
