Flooding Closes Forsyth County Roads

The Forsyth County government has closed several roads in the wake of flooding from weekend rains.

Flooding has forced Forsyth County to close several roads in its jurisdiction. Sanders Road between Mary Alice Park Road and Timberlake Trail, Parks Road and Nicholson Road and Old Federal Road at the Etowah River have all been closed off by the government. Big Creek Greenway is also closed to the public. The closures come on the heels of the National Weather Service issuing a flood warning for Cumming Sunday evening.  Big Creek near Cumming was reportedly at 4.26 feet at 4:45 a.m. and falling slowly. Dense Fog Advisory for North Georgia Roads

Big Creek near the city is causing minor flooding in the area.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a dense fog advisory which is in effect until 10 a.m. Visibility will be reduced to a quarter of a mile or less at times through the morning commute. "Sudden reductions in visibility will make for hazardous travel conditions this morning," the National Weather Service advisory said. The local forecast said to expect widespread dense fog before 11 a.m. The National Weather Service advises motorists to slow down and use your headlights while leaving plenty of distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you. Flood Warning: Big Creek Waters Rising

The continual rain will help fill Big Creek to overflowing, which will result in some flooded backyards and the closure of the greenway.

Big Creek near Cumming is under a flood warning from tonight until Tuesday afternoon issued by the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, affecting Fulton and Forsyth counties. Recent heavy rainfall has caused significant runoff into streams and rivers, which will cause flooding in some areas. And the rain keeps falling, with the forecast calling for rain to continue on Sunday. Flood stage is 7 feet. The river is forecast to rise above flood stage late Saturday night and continue to rise to near 9.9 feet by early Monday afternoon. The river will fall below flood stage by Tuesday morning. Flood Warning for Big Creek in Cumming, Alpharetta

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Big Creek River near Cumming.

 The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued the following flood warning for Big Creek near Cumming affecting Forsyth County and Big Creek near Alpharetta affecting Forsyth and Fulton counties: Recent heavy rainfall has caused significant runoff into streams and rivers, which will cause flooding in some areas. Precautionary/preparedness actions: All persons with interests along the river should monitor the latest forecasts...and be prepared to take necessary precautions to protect life and property. The latest stage data was furnished in cooperation with the United States Geological Survey. At 9:45 a.m. Wednesday the stage was 5 feet and rising slowly. Minor flooding is forecast.
