Four People Injured in South Forsyth Car Accident

An accident in south Forsyth County Friday afternoon injures four people.

A Friday afternoon accident in south Forsyth County injures four people, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. The two-vehicle accident involving a Ford F150 and a Grand Jeep Cherokee happened around 4:13 p.m. at 5120 Bethelview Road at the entrance to the Big Creek Greenway. "Four persons were injured but only three were transported," said Karleen Chalker, spokesperson of the FCSO. Chalker told Cumming Patch two people were transported to Northside Hospital-Forsyth and another individual was transported to Children’s Hospital of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. The fourth person was not taken to a medical facility. "There were no life threatening injuries," said Chalker. "I do not have any names, ages, or sex of any of the persons …

News Nearby: Authorities Confirm Body Found on Greenway

The remains of a man were found on the trail system south of Kimball Bridge Road.

Detectives in nearby Alpharetta are investigating the discovery of the decomposed remains of a man on the Big Creek Greenway trail system. George Gordon, spokesman for the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety, said the remains were found at a location south of Kimball Bridge Road in North Fulton County. South Forsyth Man Arrested in Stolen Eagle Sculpture Case

Pedro Castro Garcia was apprehended by authorities around noon today [Monday] at his residence in south Forsyth.

A 29-year-old south Forsyth County man was arrested Monday in connection with the theft of the eagle bronze sculpture taken from the Big Creek Greenway three weeks ago. Pedro Castro Garcia was apprehended by authorities around noon today [Monday] at his residence and charged with theft by receiving stolen property, according to investigators with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. The eagle sculpture was located on Wednesday, Sept. 12, in a storage shed at Garcia’s residence following a tip from Lance White, owner of Lance's Jewelry and president of the Humane Society of Forsyth County, to Forsyth County Commissioner Todd Levent. Bronze Eagle Sculpture Lands Safely

A tip from a local jeweler to a Forsyth County commissioner leads to the safe return of a bronze eagle sculpture valued at $18,500.

A bronze eagle sculpture stolen two weeks ago from the Big Creek Greenway in south Forsyth County has been recovered. Todd Levent, Forsyth County Commissioner (District 3), told Cumming Patch that he was contacted Wednesday around 5:30 p.m. by a tipster who knew where the sculpture was located. The tipster told Levent that another individual wanted to sell the eagle to him. Levent who, at the time, was leaving the Forsyth County Administration Building with Commissioner Patrick Bell (District 4) said the tipster had given him information of who had the eagle, where they lived and what kind of vehicle they drove. Levent then said, "I told Commissioner Bell that I'm going to go find our eagle." Levent said as he made his way to the location …

Creator of Missing Eagle Sculpture Offers $500 Reward

A reward is being offered for a bronze eagle sculpture valued at $18,500.

The artist who created the bronze eagle sculpture that was allegedly stolen on Aug. 27 or 28 from its perch is offering up a $500 reward for its return. It was last seen at the Bethelview Road trail head of the Big Creek Greenway. Gregory Johnson, a master sculptor and resident of north Forsyth County, told Cumming Patch his creation of the "Inquisitive Eagle" as it is called was on lease to the county for one year.  "Through the Forsyth County Arts Alliance they funded a grant and the grant was given to the county to promote art in nature," said Johnson. Forsyth County Eagle Still Missing

The bronze eagle sculpture has been missing since early last week.

A bronze sculpture of an eagle taken last week from a Forsyth County recreational area is still missing. The sculpture was located at the Bethelview Road trail head of the Big Creek Greenway multi-use trail in south Forsyth. Officials believe the sculpture was taken on Aug. 27 or 28. "There are no new developments regarding the missing sculpture," said Jodi Gardner, director of communications for the county, in an e-mail to Cumming Patch. "Anyone with information is asked to contact the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office South Precinct at 770-781-3047." The eagle sculpture is estimated to be approximately 6-feet-tall, with an approximately 8-foot wingspan. It weighs approximately 400-pounds and was funded by a grant. The sculpture was …

I agree unequivocally. They need to find the persons responsible and hold them accountable. Gates are locked at dark, this thing was way off Bethelview, and very heavy.. someone had to go to a lot of trouble and it's amazing they could do that without anyone seeing anything!   more ›

More County Deputies Patrolling Community On Bicycles

Ten Forsyth County deputies recently completed a rigorous 40-hour cyclist course.

Ten deputies from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office recently completed a 40-hour cyclist course that will provide them with the skills they need to effectively serve the community. The International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA) Police Cyclist Course is divided into 11 units: Bike Handling and Vehicular Cycling, Bike Fit, Group Riding, Hazard Recognition and Common Crashes, Obstacle Clearing and Riding Techniques, Patrol Procedures, Nighttime Patrol, Community Policing, Basic Maintenance, Legal Issues and Traffic Laws and Fitness and Nutrition.
