Paul Bennett of Cumming faces charges in connection with June 2012 deaths on Lake Lanier.
The man charged in connection with the boating deaths of two Gwinnett youths on Lake Lanier in 2012 is scheduled to be in court soon. Motions are scheduled to be heard June 4 in Hall County Superior Court in the case of Paul Bennett of Cumming. He faces charges in connection with the June deaths of Griffin and Jake Prince of Buford. No trial date is set, a spokesperson for the Hall County District Attorney's Office said Friday. Bennett was indicted for homicide and boating under the influence in connection with the boating collision on June 18, 2012, that killed the youths. The Cupbearer Coffee and Tea Outfitter, a metro-Atlanta based coffeehouse retailer, has recently opened a store in Cumming, according to the company. The multi-source coffee and tea store, a first for the retailer, has been quietly open since March. Although, they are only now more publicly announcing their arrival to the area, which is thick with competition, "Chief Cupbearer" Anthony Miller told Patch. The city of Cumming holds its annual Memorial Day Service on Friday, May 24 at the Veterans Memorial. VFW Post 9143 has invited all veterans to attend and participate in the service, which starts at 11 a.m. Cumming’s Veterans War Memorial is located at 301 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, one block from the city square. According to the city's website, the memorial pays homage to the sons and daughters of Cumming and Forsyth County who served their country on both foreign and American soil. Names of the soldeirs who sacrificed their lives for the country are engraved into the granite pillars. Two accidents in Forsyth on Monday claimed the life of one man while another wreck injured two people.
Two accidents in Forsyth County on Monday took the life of one man and seriously injured two others. Cumming resident Jeffrey Noda, 53, died from injuries he sustained in an accident at the intersection of Chattahoochee Road and Shady Grove Road around 4 p.m. Monday afternoon. According to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, Noda was driving in his 2002 Chevrolet Silverado on Chattahoochee Road and made a left turn onto Shady Grove into the path of a Forth L9000 dump truck driven by Cumming resident Joel Edmondson. Noda died of injuries at Grady Health System in Atlanta after he was transported from the scene via helicopter. Both were wearing their seatbelts and Edmondson was treated for minor injuries. This weekend's heavy rain will move out of Cumming and Forsyth, making way for mostly sunny skies by the weekend.
After yet another weekend filled with flood warnings and event cancellations throughout the metro area, Cumming is in for some sunny skies early this week and this Memorial Day weekend, though rain will be likely on Wednesday. This weekend's flooding near the Etowah River forced the closure of several roads in Forsyth, including Sanders, Parks, Nicholson Road and Old Federal. According to the National Weather Service, Big Creek remains above flood stage, affecting some yards in North Fulton and Forsyth counties. The creek was expected to fall below flood stage by early Tuesday. The Big Creek Greenway is closed due to flooding.
